THE GUNSMITH SHOP is a full service in house gun repair shop for all makes and models of rifles, pistols, and shotguns. We do NOT just replace parts until it works. We determine the cause of the malfunction first. In this way, we keep customer costs at a minimum, and reduce turn-around time. We want all your business not just one over priced repair. Just because your gun has broken or missing obsolete parts doesn't mean it cant be fixed. We can repair or re-make most broken parts to get your gun back in working order. Even if we don't have the broke or lost part to copy, we have over 2,900 dimensional drawings for various hard to find parts and if we don't have a drawing for your part we can usually still make the part as long as we know where it has to go and what it has to do. There are still some parts that are too complicated for us to make, but these are usually parts that can be repaired. We also refinish firearms, specializing in rust bluing and DURA - COAT spray finish. Rust bluing in more labor-intensive, and more expensive, but, it produces a very durable finish that outlasts caustic bluing.
A customer brought us a C Sharps 1885 High Wall with a single set trigger. When the trigger was unset, it was heavy, but functioned correctly. In the set position, he could adjust the trigger, but within a couple of shots, it became unstable and would fire with the slightest movement or bump of the gun. In his research, he found that C Sharps used the original Winchester trigger design. Winchester was unable to make this trigger design function properly, so they moved away from this design. The customer wanted his trigger to function as it was intended, and to do so safely.
At THE GUNSMITH SHOP, we believe that when you know how something works, you can fix it.
The single set trigger has a knock off (picture on left), knock off spring, and a knock off sear. We found that the flaw in the design was that the slot in the knock off was too large a diameter for the knock off spring. The improper fit allowed the knock off’s point of contact to shift on the spring about 1/16” before the knock off sear would engage in the knock off. This caused the knock off to become unstable and disengage with the knock off sear with the slightest bump. We relieved the knock off, so it would maintain the correct point of contact throughout its travel. Now when the customer sets the trigger, he has a precise and safe trigger pull every time.
